Not a Blackhawks fan, I follow the players from here,  but my condolences to the Wirtz family.  This family has had a long time association with the NHL.  Norads, I think you are right saying he was stubborn, but I also think he couldn't adjust his thinking and method of doing business to reflect the changes in the business climate of the league.  Supposedly his son Peter will become the member of the family to take over his father's place in the organization.

Now, if they will only get rid of Pulford.  A dinosaur who's time is well past.

Back when me and my friend first got into hockey around elementary school age, we decided to pick random teams to pull for.  He became a Blackhawks fan and I chose the Nordiques.  I can't remember a time since where the Blackhawks didn't suck.  Maybe things will turn around for them with some new leadership.  But condolences to everyone in the organization and his family.

I'm not a Hawks fan either but a lot of fans are actually happy he's dead. WOW is all I can say. It's quite surprising that people are happy about somebody dying. This man must have really destroyed the Hawks franchise.

Well when you're a pretty succesful franchise in the 80's and early 90's get a new arena built that holds 20,000 people and you're only puting 12,000 and some change in the seats (on a good night) you've defiantly done something wrong.  I am a die hard Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and the best thing that ever happened to that franchise was Hugh Culverhouse dying. Since the new ownership has come in we've won one a Superbowl and been pretty competive for the last 10 years.  Wirtz had the same mentality that Culverhouse did.  He did nothing really to spend money to improve the team he just wanted the revenue from it. Thus any decent player would move on after their inital contract.  There are more underlying things with both franchises ie poor drafting but the general comparisons can be made!

the iron curtain has fallen in chicago. watch for a domino effect now with pulford being the next to go. this is the most significant thing to happen to blackhawks hockey in the last 15 years.

I guess is may be some relief that we are not going to get caught up in that soap opera in Chicago.

Hutch, maybe it's late in the afternoon, maybe I'm just dense.  Could you elaborate on that last post please?

We have a Hawks fan over on the Ducks board that does exactly what this site does for the Admirals, as this has been a hot topic of sort throughout various hockey message boards, and he was relaying that of which he's experienced since this story broke, Randy.

A lot of messages have or were either been deleted or removed due to various rules.
