mike kostka is also an offensive defensemen who is pretty gifted.  kalinski has never had over 27 points in a season.  hes a rental and still on his ELC.  He probably won't be with tampa next year.

Kalinski is a 4th year pro. He's no longer on an ELC. Those are only good for 3 years. Just because he doesn't put up monster numbers doesn't mean he's a terrible player.

Is this guy going to be an offensive machine?  The answer is obviously no.  But will he supply us with some good lower line depth and the answer is yes.  Look at it this way folks, we easily could have lost a player here as a sweetener to this deal.  And maybe, just maybe the change in scenery and and much better supporting cast could cause him to elevate his game.

 That's my main point!!
Wright and Vernace really haven't contributed too much to San Antonio's offense.
Like I told Cullen Eddy's parents last weekend,. You can really only dislike (hate) an opposing teams player but so much, because in hockey, they can be on your team the next day. Grin (there are always exceptions to this rule,ie.... Danny Richmond  Cheesy .never really cared for him as an Admiral)

The reality is: unless anyone on this board has actually spent time watching this kid play/develop, our opinions on his value are totally uneducated and informed solely on point production (as if that's the only thing that matters on defense). Add in to that the variability of the actual systems that teams play, there are way too many unknowns to uncover regarding this guy.

Paul Szczechura comes to mind. Rather abysmal numbers when we got him and then he became one of our top players pretty quickly. I'll wait to judge the kid until after I see him on the ice.

I'm with Roman on this.  As good as the Ads are right now, I think any player coming to this team may see an uptick in stats.  So I'm looking forward to seeing Kalinski at work.

hes making 65k this year, thats what you make on an ELC, my bad for reaind cap geek wrong, he was on a one year 65,000/605,000 contract.

hus numbers haven't gotten any better, his best points total was in juniors, he had a bad injury a couple years ago and hasn't done well from what I can understand.  And development?  Phantoms have only been our rival for 10 years now.  Hes played 40 games this season which means he isn't even cracking the lineup every night.  Is he a utility player?  Absolutely.  Does an AHL team need a utility player?  Not really.

We could have used an extra body on Saturday night - our guys were exhausted after the game, playing double shifts the entire game.  It would have been nice to have had an extra body to help out.

Coop isn't going to play someone who doesn't belong out there so let's leave the decision up to the coaching staff as to whether this new guy is going to help us.  Also, I don't think Yzerman would have taken him unless they see something in him that can add to the organization.

I think he had to take him because Philly would have had 51 contracts, I think 50 is the limit.  I think it went.....yeah we want Kubina but I don't have any openings to sign him, can you take someone off my hands?

I will give him a few games before passing judgment. A change of scenery just might be what is needed to jump start his play. There are many players that were written off by one team only to turn it around at another.

Here is a player that was almost an Admiral.

2009 Drew Miller was classified as worthless by TB and was being sent down to the Admirals. He got picked up by the Red Wings and redefined himself as a 3rd/4th line grinder and PK'er. He has also managed to score close to 20 points each season with limited ice time, averaging about 12 minutes a game. Earned a one-way two year deal this year,  not to shabby for a waiver pickup.

Stats from his
2009-2010    Lightning    14    0    0    0    -3    2    0    0    0    10    0.0
2009-2010    Red Wings    66    10    9    19    5    10    1    1    3    93    10.8
2010-2011    Red Wings    67    10    8    18    -2    13    0    1    2    85    11.8
2011-2012    Red Wings    58    12    10    22    11    16    0    0    3    96    12.
